New service being planned.

We want to thank everyone who has added our dance blog to their subscription list. We have been receiving emails telling us how valuable our resources are, especially our free professional advice videos.

What are they looking for at auditions?

STILL FIGURING OUT TRAINING OPTIONS?
Instead of blindly choosing skills to work on, why not choose the ones that translate directly into booking and earning power? Using members’ audition pages, here’s what we learned from 3 months of listings:


From several EAST COAST AUDITIONS posted recently:

(52%) asked for dancers with singing skills.
(45%) asked for dancers with acting skills.
(33%) asked for dancers with comedic skills.
(30%) asked for dancer with jazz and musical theatre skills.
(15%) asked for dancers with tap skills.
(15%) asked for dancers with hip hop skills.
(12%) asked for dancers with ballet skills.
(9%) asked for dancers with modern/contemporary skills.
(9%) asked for dancers with partnering skills.
(2%) asked for dancers with fire dancing skills.

Other skills mentioned: Puppetry, B-girl,and Fosse-vaudeville styles.


From several WEST COAST AUDITIONS posted recently:

(45%) asked for dancers with singing skills.
(33%) asked for dancers with musical theatre skills.

West Coast Dance Auditions

2008 SUMMER SEASON

Summer Season runs May 20th to September 28th. Some shows will run in rep in two different theaters. Seeking Hot Mikado: Mikado: Father to Nanki-poo. Powerful. Tap Dancer. Also seeking actors for the 2008 Summer Season to include: Godspell, The Heart's Desire, Ragtime, Imaginary Invalid, as well as Hot Makido. Please prepare two contrasting monologues and a short song. Walk up appointments only.

10am-1pm / non-required principal audition

ALL NIGHT STRUT (ESCONDIDO)

Casting All Night Strut, an all-singing, all-dancing celebration of the 1930s and 1940s. Director/Choreographer: Lance Roberts. Rehearsals start Mar. 28, 2008. Performances run Apr. 10-May 18, 2008. Seeking soprano, ages 20s-30s, Doris Day/Rita Hayworth type with sass, belt a plus; alto, ages 20s-30s, Lena Horne/Bessie Smith type with brass; tenor, ages 20s-30s, Harry Connick Jr./Frank Sinatra type, tap a plus; baritone, ages 20s-30s, Cab Calloway/Joe Williams type. All ethnic groups encouraged to attend, should have strong solo voices, the ability to sing tight harmonies like the Manhattan Transfer, and be able to dance. Prepare a song appropriate to the character, music from the show or the Big Band Era okay. Females, wear dance heels. Equity Dinner Theatre Contract $800 wk/min. Bring pic/rÈs.
